Earlierthis month, Microsoft voicedthatit took down 1,400 Citadel botnetswiththehelpofthe FBI,and right away Ballmerand Co.have emittedjusthowbigofan strokethe bidhad. Accordingto Richard Domingues Boscovich,the firm’s Digital Crimes Unit partner ubiquitous counsel,the operation liberatedatleast 2 million PCsacrossthe creationfromthe antagonistic formula—andthat’s the regressive guessbyhis reckoning.It’s believedthat some-morethan $ 500 millionhasbeen stolenfrom bank accounts interjectionto report gleanedfrom keystrokes loggedby computers cheerlesswiththe software. Thoughthe arch botnet organizeris stillonthe laxand most machinesare still impededby Citadel, Domingues Boscovichsaysthey“feel assuredthatwe unequivocallygotmostofthe onesthatwewereafter.”
